Extend Exercise Classes in Bristol
(offering Open Classes and one to one sessions)
Looking for an Exercise Class?
But the usual Active Class is not suitable.
Why not Try an Extend Class?
Extend Classes provide gentle exercise to music for men and women over sixty and for anyone of any age with a disability. These “keep fit” sessions are enjoyable and fun and are run in a stimulating environment using all genres of music. Classes
provide an opportunity to meet people, encourage a sense of well being,
personal satisfaction and achievement. People of all abilities can participate. Regular Extend exercise increases your mobility and independence, improving strength, co-ordination and balance and helps to counteract loneliness and isolation, thereby enhancing the Quality of Your Life. Extend has roots in exercise, health and movement and dance. One to one sessions are available for stroke patients or for those who have a mobility issue etc. Specialist classes for diabetes, heart health, Parkinson’s etc can be arranged (but most people can usually manage a general class). Extend classes are growing in popularity throughout the UK, particularly as people are now living longer and want to maintain a good level of personal fitness well into their later years. These classes are an excellent choice of affordable exercise for the older person and for people with a disability to challenge their fitness levels, from the very active to the not so active. Whether you are recently retired or determined to improve your fitness level, Extend can help you to achieve this. Extend classes will always contain 20 minutes of seated exercise, but do not be discouraged as seated exercises can be very active. You will be very surprised at just how much active exercise can be performed whilst sitting in a chair. Regular weekly classes are a great way of making new friends and are mostly held during the day. The sessions usually last for one hour with a small interval and a chat, and sometimes a cup of tea at the end of the session. A Safe to Exercise questionnaire will need to be completed on joining the class. Extend Teachers are accredited through the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS for short – see links at end of this site) – and teachers are constantly updating their skills and knowledge through regular CPD training (Continual Professional Development).
